Garmin Edge 1050 Gets Major Software Update

Garmin rolled out a significant software update for the Edge 1050 this week, adding features that address some of the most requested improvements since launch.

The update (version 21.15) adds real-time power zone targeting, improved climb detection, and better integration with third-party training platforms. Most notably, the update includes a redesigned workout builder that finally matches the flexibility of the desktop app.

ClimbPro 2.0 is the headline feature. The system now identifies climbs in real-time rather than relying solely on pre-loaded route data. This means spontaneous route changes won’t leave you guessing about upcoming elevation changes.

Power zone targeting works with structured workouts, providing audio and visual cues when you drift outside target ranges. It’s similar to what TrainerRoad users expect indoors, now available on outdoor rides.

Third-party integration improvements focus on TrainingPeaks and Intervals.icu. Workout sync is now bidirectional, and completed workout data uploads faster with more granular metrics.

The update also addresses several bugs from the December release, including Bluetooth connectivity issues that plagued some users and GPS accuracy problems in dense urban areas.

Battery life hasn’t changed significantly according to early reports, though the new real-time climb detection may impact longevity on particularly mountainous routes.

The update is available now through Garmin Express or via WiFi directly on the device.
